It's been a little while now, since the seventh edition of the NL Contest took place in the lovely city of Strasbourg. But trying to reminisce everything that went down on this great week-end isn't the hardest part about doing this write-up for Be-Mag. See, I sure remember a few tricks that went down, some mind-blowing stuff even, but you've already seen them all in the various edits that showed up online afterward. That's what the Internet is great for, watching a contest that just took place on the other side of the planet, in a matter of just a few hours. Reading about it, on the other hand...
There is more to the Winterclash than just skating and that is the skaters themselves and the crowd! Photos by Olfert Poelen
The first thing you have to know about Nicola is that in Italy he is known as "Nico er fico" which means "Nico the cool". This Johnny Bravo look-alike street machine is killing it since day one. The first time I talked to him was a street contest in Milan ten years ago that ended with Nico doing a 360 soul on an elbow high hand rail that resulted in him winning the contest and somebody else quitting blading. Ten years later Nico just got married and is a proud father of the two-year-old cute girl Giorgia. But if you think this makes him slow down his blading, I also need to let you know that he also just became Italian Champion of 2011. It is a great pleasure for me to introduce my friend Nicola Fiorenza and his "fuck-off attitude". Enjoy the edit!

Be-Mag East Coast Ambassador Sam DeAngelis is currently visiting California to poach in new territories. His first hunting ground was Poway Skate Park and he managed to get some pretty rare wildlife on camera that night. Peep edit!
"There is a rollerblading festival going on under the highway bridge here in Brooklyn" I heard someone saying when we entered the venue. "People jumping over cars, grinding on a truck – you have to see this, it's crazy". Yeah the New York City Street Invite 2011 was an unique experience for everyone involved. Billy O'Neill and Daniel Kinney (founder and organizer of BCSD) don't talk much – they are doers and do things the right and professional way. I guess people recognize this and that's why the NYC Street Invite gathered bladers from all over the world to battle it out on some real street one-of-a-kind obstacles especially created and set-up for this contest. So Billy and Daniel did not only take care of the obstacles for the contest, they also made sure that they've had all permissions and insurances needed for the contest. We at Be-Mag also felt that this contest was going to be a big deal, so we decided to send a team to New York to cover the event properly. But good things take time.
On a rainy Tuesday night in April, I dropped my plans and headed south to skate a quick session with Franco Cammayo and Dominik Wagner at Shields Skatepark in Flemington, NJ. Dominik had spent several weeks of April in NYC to work on the second installment to his published photography book titled "Forever Now."
Hi people, the weather is close to perfect here in Bulle for the high in the park final day! The temperatures are close to 24 degrees Celsius, not a cloud in the sky, just some crazy wind...but the atmosphere is great! READ ON!
Hello boys and girls! So the rain stopped just in time for the Best Trick Contest...but wait, the best trick wasn't part of the WRS comp...it was actually a contest to see how good skaters could skate after drinking for half of the day in the rain. So they were giving out "free drinks" coupons to skaters that either cleared the long railbox or laced a sick trick. After they were done with giving away free drinks, the stakes stepped it up to a Magnum of Vodka!
So it's saturday afternoon here in Bulle, the Young bucks were about to ride their heats, unfortunately the rain gods didn't want them to ride just yet! So people are taking cover in their cars or under the cantin they had put up in case this did happen...good planning! While the rain was pouring on the course, people basically started drinking, and planning their evening....Remy Meister and his girlfriend had the great idea to organise an iPod battle, contest organisers wanted to start the best trick contest, rain or not, just like it went down 2 years ago. As of right now it's undecided whether we will be having a street contest today or not. Stay tuned for more of High in the Park news, pictures and video later on in the evening.
One hour with Tim Franken at OB Skate Park in San Diego, CA. Tim is currently filming a section and will be skating and filming throughout California all month. Stay tuned.
After two years of hard work and drunken shenanigans the Tainted Youth DVD is finally ready. Watch all the eight sections including the aftermath and be inspired.
Danny not only has the best last name in the world, he also is damn steezy on the blades. Peep edit!
Great edit featuring one of Europe's most vibrant skatescenes in the last decade. Great to see so many oldschool skaters from back in the day and so many youngsters skating at that level. Check it out!
