Announced just a few weeks ago, the upcoming NYC Street Invite is set to leave a lasting impression. Our contributor Ryan Loewy talked with Billy O'Neill about the new real street competition the best bladers in the industry have been invited to compete in.
Today we decided to shred Billy’s old stomping grounds, Staten Island. We first cruised to Brooklyn to his favorite bagel shop. When we got the first spot, decided to skip it and continue to the second spot.
The NYC scene has been blowing up over the last year or two - again becoming what it was years ago: one of the global meccas of rollerblading that defines a culture. One of the companies playing a part in this transformation is the online magazine Art of Rolling (AOR). We hope you enjoy this interview with Angelo Ferrer, the man behind AOR!
One Day NY just released a banger edit with Dominik Wagner shredding down the streets of New York. These clips are from all over the city either at a late night session after work or just random occurrences while out and about with the crew. Filmed by Michael Valenzuela, Kyle Sola, Nigel Hosang, Sean Engler, and David Toro, who also made the edit.
Almost a year has past, and there's still no love in the heart of the city. Thanks to contributed footage from Austin Paz, Jon Jenkins & Joey Scannella... we have just enough to move on to the next one. -Adam Caroselli
The time has come and the final competitor list for the 2011 NYC Street Invitational is finished. We have taken our time choosing the absolute best street skaters from all over the world to bring to New York City and we think we have a pretty amazing competitor list put together. Now onto those Wild Card spots that we have promised: Due to the nature of the competition we will not have time for a qualifications or Amateur competition. Our main priority is to give those invited to the event every opportunity to shred what we will be putting in front of them. We will be accepting suggestions for the 5 remaining Wild Card spots for the NYC Street Invitational. The top 5 submitted bladers will be invited to the competition. One submission per person so choose wisely.
The 1st NYC Street Invitational will take place in New York on August 20th. Shit's going to be hot, check out the promo!
Alex Ryerson comes up with this nice edit in which he skates some hot spots in Brooklyn and Queens. Apparently, New York has a special charme for Rollerbladers. Is this due to their spots or to the skaters and organizations (such as IrollNY) that are pushing the envelope there? The scene is definitely growing fast. Keep your eyes peeled for some more New York footage in the next weeks and months.
Brooklyn, NY’s James Perez gets it in with this short edit. Even though he gets “folded” in the beginning of the edit he laces a ton of smooth tricks and tech switch ups at the Ocean Parkway rails in Brooklyn. See a small sample ...
Navin Hardyal from Skeptic Media put together an edit featuring the Brooklyn Banks and the skating scene in NYC. It focuses on the years 2007 - 2009 and gives a great overview of the skate scene. Too bad that the Brooklyn banks will be rebuilt, th...
Joey Rojas, up and coming videographer/editor from Brooklyn, NY, sneaks in this edit of The Conference’s, Adrien Anne, during his stay here in New York City. Filmed during the time I Roll NY interviewed Adrien, this edit also includes Billy “Fish” O’Neil skating Owls head skatepark in Brooklyn, NY.
The NYC Street Invitational is a Pro/Am invite-only event founded by Pro blader and long time resident of New York City, Billy O’Neill. The event will be a completely legitimate, real “street” contest taking place underneath a highway in the heart of Williamsburg, Brooklyn. Permits and insurance are already secured for the location and all obstacles will be available within the space provided. Unlike other street contests there will be no issue with the police breaking up the event and there will be no traveling from spot-to-spot. This is going to be one of the first, fully legitimate, real “street” contests since IMYTA. Many of the world’s top Pro’s have already confirmed that they will be here to battle for the $10,000 that will be distributed among the top 3. Make your plans now, because this will be a rollerblading event to remember!
