Jon Julio has been a part of blading since its inception. Besides inventing tricks in the early days, Jon has grown with the sport in both terms of talent and professional accolades.
Our plan was to make some video updates for our time here in Cali, but with our little oldschool HD style camera it's hard to get to the standards. With help from Mike Tseng, who filmed second angles with his GoPro, we found some cool spots sometimes hidden from most street skaters over here, who use absurd amont of wax by the way.
Last year Jacob Juul won the Scandinavian Real Street Competition in Copenhagen. The first prize was a plane ticket to Cali and back. My mom works for Cimber Air and I fly cheap, so on a cold December morning at around 6, on our way home from the bar, we decided to go to Cali together for 2 months. I hit up my friend Greg in Long Beach and asked him if he could hook us up with a place to buy a car, and he did. Waking up after a Thursday night in San Diego is tough to do but Mikey Roman, Tim Franken and I hopped onto “The Beast” early Friday morning and headed to Long Beach. We were on our way to the A Chosen-Few Finals in Los Angeles, which was scheduled for Saturday. So we decided to swag out early and head to Long Beach for the day to meet up with Erick Rodriguez and skate some local spots.
The Chosen Few Finals have arrived once again and I can say without a doubt it is going to be an epic competition. Skaters all over the world have competed this year at ACF competitions. Every competition has determined the top 10 skaters and they have all earned points. We have organized 9 competitions with local organizers and included another 3 competitions to the series as well. It was a beautiful hot sunny day August 6th in Santa Ana California where the 2011 Blader Cup all went down. Pro skaters and dedicated participants flocked from all around to condone in such a glorious event located on the historic 4th st. business marketplace in southern Orange County. The skater's busted their asses off all day for the top prize of $3000, but in the end only one pulled through and took the grand prize (Brian Aragon).

On January 22nd the City Hopper video project with Sven Boekhorst will premiere in Amsterdam, Netherlands. Until then we will release some old school Boekhorst clips from his achievements over the past year. Today, we take you back to the ASA competition in 2000. The first two clips are of his halfpipe and park runs at Hermosa Beach, California and the third clip is from the ASA Finals in Las Vegas, Nevada. Sven won the World Championships in Park at Las Vegas and after winning the X-Games and Gravity Games in addition he was given the title, "Triple Crown". On August 6th the City of Santa Ana’s Downtown East End kicks off celebration and the re-grand opening of the historic Yost Theatre, the same day as the Santa Ana Artist Walk which already draws people from all over Orange County. In the midst of the festivities going on, some of the biggest brands in blading will be throwing the 1st ever Blading Cup featuring the world's top pros Chris Haffey, Brian Aragon, Alex Broskow, John Bolino, Erik Bailey, Chris Farmer, Frankie Morales, Brandon Smith, Jeff Stockwell, Dominic Sagona and many more. There will be an AM contest at 5pm and a Pro demo at 6:30. Skaters will have the chance to win over $3,000 cash + prizes. Registration begins at 2PM at the contest site.
Last year was a great turn out, the whole Valo team, Razors team, as well as the top pros came to hang out. Free tacos provided by a local mexican market, free product giveaways, fun in the sun with good people and friends. Come if you can make it!
On December 17th 2011, the WRS 2011 Bbq and Bowl Bash will be held at the Robb Field Skatepark in San Diego, CA. Bring your blades, something to grill, and come session to celebrate the year in blading. Free skating, food and friends, join the fun and come hang out. Plenty of space outside the park for kid's, dog's etc. Come one, come all.
