Every skater is unique, but some are more unique than others. Chris Farmer falls within this category. From his early edits onwards, it was clear we had someone special. His style is almost surrealist in its imagination.
Chris first put on a pair of skates aged 8 and, without any knowledge of the inline scene, set about throwing himself down stair sets; “those were obviously the purest of moments, not knowing there were magazines, or even videos for the matter, of people doing exactly what I was attempting to do... but then I was exposed to the actual scene of what was going on. Hook line and sinker... haven't stopped.”
He first entered skating competitively sometime in 1997. Though he admits he lacked the edge back then, it was an icebreaker into this side of things. After seeing the first Medium video, Children of the Night, Dustin Latimer became his biggest inspiration.
After a small stint with Kradeal Clothing in 2000, Chris was picked up by Fifty-50 and Rollerblade. Before long he was brought to attention of the skating community at large. His proudest moment was being asked to ride for Mindgame, “hands down.” In the summer of 2003 he was asked to join the team of a new frame company, Xsjado. By 2005 he would have a pro skate from the same company.
From all the edits he has been involved in, he has taken something from everything; “whether it's a trick, emotion, vibe, location, the way it's filmed, etc. I still have a soft spot for the Intelligent Productions edit that kind of started it all, thanks Zach and James.”
Chris Farmer has undeniably changed the way we skate. His inventiveness and creativity has been a constant inspiration for many. He has challenged the norms and done more than many to push the sport forward, with an artistic twist.

It is hard to put into words how very much I enjoy Adam Johnson´s work. Not only does he know how to capture the aesthetics of rollerblading in a way that appeals to a vast majority of the rolling community, but in addition he seems to dedicate every breathing minute to rollerblading related projects, be it VX, Street Artist or whatnot. For the last few years Adam has been on the road constantly. The routine of buying a van and turning it into his mobile headquarter appears to have become a fixed segment of his life. After filming for On Top and Charging, both extremely well received projects, he still had the energy to put his all into yet another feat.
When Daniel Kinney threw the first ever Bittercold Show Down in 2001 the event was just a one-day event with 150 competitors, had no extra stage for spectators, no additional ramp set-ups - the event didn't even have an own website.
Our contributor Vincent Morretino sent us some snaps from his Bitter Cold Showdown 2012 experience. Vincent covered some of the skating and also gives you a glimpse on what being at BCSD felt like this year. Thanks, Vincent!
Adam Johnson takes high risks to deliver the best skating possible all the way to your living room. Selling all his belongings to fund a flick and living in a van for months on end to film for your new favorite videos are just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the many sacrifices this guy makes. No wonder he gets pissed when someone steals his and his peers' hard work. Read more about his opinions on intellectual property and find out more about his latest brainchild 'The 20 Project' which will feature some of the most interesting skaters of the sport.
