In a few weeks time New Orleans will be the scene for the Bayou Bash, the local blading competition. This year the competition is taken back to its roots on the streets of the Southern city. We checked in with organizer Andrew Waddle and talked about the history of the competition, skating in New Orleans and got a preview of the spots.
Sven Boekhorst made a bold move back in 2007 when he organized the first Mind The Gap. His new contest featured only a couple of ramps and one big gap, but it turned out to be a success. Skaters loved getting airborne and big crowds witnessed some great blading. Five years later the flying Dutchman and his friends have cruised countless miles around Europe with their ramps in tow. Sven has no intention of stopping any time soon, but he did take some time off his busy schedule to celebrate the fifth anniversary of his brainchild with us.
Roving Be-mag correspondent and blade photographer Megan Petersen attended this year's AIL Championships at the skate paradise otherwise known as Woodward West in Tehachapi, California and came back to us with this short recap report.
Ivan Narez, Erik Stokley, and I arrived at Jon and Viola Julio’s loft around 4:30 Thursday morning. Ivan slept most of the way in pure exhaustion from finalizing the details on getting copies of the Shred ‘Til You’re Dead II book, DVD, and Blu Ray that were releasing the next day. By that time, I had been awake nearly 24 hours and about five of those were driving from Walnut Creek to Santa Ana.
Koreans, like the Japanese and pretty much most of Asia these days, love their technology. At any big event in Korea you will notice that a lot of people like to shoot and record pretty much anything with their cameras, whether their camera is a professional DSLR with a massive elongated lens, or just a simple smartphone.
Marnix Haak, known from Supermossels, Aorta and The Breakfastclub, and his bike-buddy and fellow skater Robbert Snijder are organizing an innovative skate and bike contest. It will take place at the 25th of August in Amsterdam. Sweet Milk Joop got the chance to have a little chat with the boys to fill you in about the details.
When Pietro asked me to write a few lines about the jam session in Mogliano Veneto – that's right near the Valo factory, by the way – a couple of days ago I was seriously confused. Seriously.
HoHoHoes is the diamond in the rough of American skate contests. The exclusivity brought in professional skaters like Mark Wodja, Michael Braud, Dre Powell and Montre Livingston to name a few. There were southern legends who have not attended an event in years, like Josh Amacher, Garret Slobey etc. Large groups of skaters from 8+ states flew or drove to Atlanta in order to be in attendance... Click on the article to view all the pics and to find out more about what was going in Atlanta!
Going into this I knew that it was going to be hectic. For years I have been hosting local shows and helping promote parties so as putting it all together and making people want to come would not be a problem. I mean if you think about all I really did was state the obvious. It is the middle of January, of course it is „Too Cold To Blade Outside“.

Guillaume J. Lauzier did an absolutely killer job on getting us the hook up on the complete four-day Lausanne Street Bowl Contest covering every division and getting some really sick shots. Sorry if you couldn’t make it because the rollers were really setting it off. But, it’s all good because you really get a feel for the entire event and the vibe that was going on in Guillaume’s video. Of course, the comp had a stellar setup both indoors and out. So, while you’re watching this feel free to run through what lines you would have been putting together. Then, you can wipe that drool off of your face and go hit the streets. Kudos to all who competed and ripped.
Want to grab some attention? Open up a video with your first trick as a banger. I’d say a farv hopping rail to rail five rails total answers that well. Don’t worry; there are plenty of bangers to follow along with some catchy tunes.
