The World Rolling Series has introduced a new addition to their already successful competitive format. 'Uploaded', a online video format, allows competitors from around the world to upload their own edits in order to win prizes and points within WRS. It combines the concepts of mass generated edits over the recent years with people who want to compete in a different scope. There are those who express their riding best in front of crowds under the pressure of direct competition, which in the past have been the ones able to succeed in a competitive nature. Now, those who work best in front of the camera at their own pace have the opportunity to find competitive success where it did not exist before. WRS representatives Daniel Kinney and Kato Mateu got together with Be-Mag with the intention of answering some questions and cracking open all that is 'Uploaded.'
"There is a rollerblading festival going on under the highway bridge here in Brooklyn" I heard someone saying when we entered the venue. "People jumping over cars, grinding on a truck – you have to see this, it's crazy". Yeah the New York City Street Invite 2011 was an unique experience for everyone involved. Billy O'Neill and Daniel Kinney (founder and organizer of BCSD) don't talk much – they are doers and do things the right and professional way. I guess people recognize this and that's why the NYC Street Invite gathered bladers from all over the world to battle it out on some real street one-of-a-kind obstacles especially created and set-up for this contest. So Billy and Daniel did not only take care of the obstacles for the contest, they also made sure that they've had all permissions and insurances needed for the contest. We at Be-Mag also felt that this contest was going to be a big deal, so we decided to send a team to New York to cover the event properly. But good things take time.
Here is a first raw edit from the NYC Street Invite 2011. The clips shown in this edit are from the initial heats in the beginning. More photos and clips are about to follow.
Announced just a few weeks ago, the upcoming NYC Street Invite is set to leave a lasting impression. Our contributor Ryan Loewy talked with Billy O'Neill about the new real street competition the best bladers in the industry have been invited to compete in.
There are no solutions in rollerblading because rollerblading does not need fixed. Rollerblading is pretty bad ass the way it is. However, there are some things that could be better. This television pilot, WRS, BCSD and numerous other projects are merely efforts to make things better, not solutions. Specifically, this television pilot was an effort to see competitive rollerblading on television again. In some ways it failed and in other ways it was completely successful. Jason Reyna went to Bitter Cold Showdown this year and made an edit. Here you go.
With a huge event such as the 2011 Bitter Cold Show Down, photographers are never too far away and ready to get that epic shot. This year it would be no different for me. During our 13 hour drive from NYC to Royal Oak, MI I had ample amount of time to contemplate how my shots of this weekends events would differ from others. The shots that make headlines would of course be taken on the floor where all the action happens. But sometimes we forget that these competitors are also fans of rollerblading themselves.

Bittercold Showdown is coming up in some days. Here we've got a small teaser introducing the park that will be the playground once again for this year's Bittercold Showdown.
The Bitter Cold Showdown started in 2001 at Blindside Sports in Elkhart, IN as a small rollerblading video premiere, contest and trade show. It has grown to become one of the largest gatherings in the world for the rollerblading community. Our goals since the beginning was to develop an event that was self-sustained by its sponsors and allowed everyone attending access to all activities. Currently, the trade show pays for all costs surrounding the event, which allows 100% of admissions to be used as prize money. In 2009, 264 rollerbladers competed for the Bitter Cold Showdown title.
