Ever since the first rolling videos hit the market in the early '90's, certain releases – such as 'The Hoax' and VG installments, or later published milestones like 'Coup de Tat' and 'Brain Fear Gone' – have changed not only the way people tend to look at and think about the specific scenes and rollerbladers portrayed, but also rolling culture itself. Even though I think it's too early to say what long term effect the release of GC.1 will have on the rolling world it undoubtedly has heightened my expectations regarding filming and video graphic techniques. Adding the extremely high production quality to the skills of one of the best teams in rollerblading yet, the math basically does itself. The Ground Control team video represents the passion and hard work Jon Elliott and his crew have put into their dream, resulting in one of the most spectacular videos to date.
Contributors from Be-Mag come from all over the world. In fact, one of the aspects that make this media outlet so successful is the joint effort given from the rolling world covering every rideable inch of the globe. Aggressive skating, while seemingly non-existent to the pop-culture world, has grown in leaps and bounds over the past few years. The dynamic has changed in so many ways since the early 1990s that each aspect in growth of style, amplitude, technology, culture, etc. has gone through it’s own little piece of the overall revolution.

Are you as excited about the new Ground Control video as we are? You probably should be. In order to commemorate the videos release we’ll be giving away three free copies in a prize raffle!
Here is a Razors podcast featuring the NYC Street Invite 2011 action. Edit by Phillip Long.
Usually ODNY wasn't suppose to cover this competition but a good friend was awesome enough to hook up the media pass. Immediately when looking at the obstacles, the NY Invitational sets it self apart from all other comps. Offering unique spots to skate like an old beat up Cadillac, constructions tubes, U-haul trailer, and a huge dumpster to name a few. Not to mention that this comp was very reminiscent of the old IMYTA competitions. The obstacles were all put together by the craftsmanship of Jose Disla & the C.O. team along with other NY locals that showed up the day of construction to support and offer a helping hand. New York owes such a great competition to the Bernal Heights Collective - a medicinal marijuana shop from San Francisco whom sponsored the events large prize.
One of the biggest and sickest skate contests located under a Brooklyn bridge is over and out. Alex Broskow is the man of the weekend taking home 5.000$ and the highly coveted title of the first NYC Street invite champion. One of our core filmers Sam DeAngelis is already going through 5GB of footage he gathered over the past weekend. To ease the waiting he comes up with a short trailer for the upcoming be-mag edit. Keep your eyes peeled for more gold clips coming out of his hands.
Hawke Trackler made his way out New York City to document the NYC Invitational 2011 for Be-Mag. In the most competitive city in the world and with a charismatic host, Billy O'Neill, this contest was set up for success. If you take a look at the riderslist and the heats then you realize that this was something extraordinary. Check out this edit, see the hammers feel the vibe and book your tickets for next year. With a riderslist of such caliber and situated in one of this worlds most magnificent cities this contest could step up into the realms of legendary contest around the world. Enjoy...
