Boston’s skate scene is awesome because we have a good mixture of skaters from all generations. We have a variety of skaters of all ages. Many of the OG’s who took a break are getting back into it and the shop exposes many new faces to the sport.
The first day of part two of the 2012 'Escape from New York Tour 2012' to Boston, MA went off without a hitch. The media team consisting of Ryan Loewy, Dan Fabiano, and myself were already ahead and working to document the trip.
Contributors from Be-Mag come from all over the world. In fact, one of the aspects that make this media outlet so successful is the joint effort given from the rolling world covering every rideable inch of the globe. Aggressive skating, while seemingly non-existent to the pop-culture world, has grown in leaps and bounds over the past few years. The dynamic has changed in so many ways since the early 1990s that each aspect in growth of style, amplitude, technology, culture, etc. has gone through it’s own little piece of the overall revolution.
I came to this year's Boston Street Battle for a few reasons. I wanted to reconnect with old friends, do a little skating, and snag a few stills with my new digital camera.
On saturday July 3rd we (Gabe Holm, Andrew Smolak, Paul Yacovone, and myself) were out skating and happen to run into a few of the local RI bladers who told us about this new ledge and rail they found in India point park in Providence. So we went and checked it out, to find out it was actually a pretty dope spot. We didn't plan on making a one minute one spot edit. I was getting random clips just for the hell of it when gabe said "if you land a few more tricks, you probably could make your one minute one spot edit here". At this point I've landed handful of tricks on video, so figured why not and did a few more maneuvers and there you have it, the Jeff Dalnas One minute, one spot for be-mag.
Gabe Holm has made his mark with his New England Video Project, entitled "It's about time" in which he unites the talents of Andy Leitermann, Jeff Dalnas, Andrew Smolak, John Williams and Quinn Feldman. Here you can see Gabe himself ripping up a skatepark near his hometown.
My girlfriend, Kara, and I left the suburbs of Illinois on Tuesday night around 8pm to embark on a 16hr drive to Boston, MA. We passed through Indiana, Ohio, Pennsylvania, New York, and Rhode Island.
Chances are if you've seen anything about New England skating in the past 5 years, Gabe's had a part in it. He puts out videos (knowing full well he'll probably end up in debt) just to promote the scene. He organizes some of the most fun and creative contests in the area.
