The first thing you have to know about Nicola is that in Italy he is known as "Nico er fico" which means "Nico the cool". This Johnny Bravo look-alike street machine is killing it since day one. The first time I talked to him was a street contest in Milan ten years ago that ended with Nico doing a 360 soul on an elbow high hand rail that resulted in him winning the contest and somebody else quitting blading. Ten years later Nico just got married and is a proud father of the two-year-old cute girl Giorgia. But if you think this makes him slow down his blading, I also need to let you know that he also just became Italian Champion of 2011. It is a great pleasure for me to introduce my friend Nicola Fiorenza and his "fuck-off attitude". Enjoy the edit!
Couple weeks ago there was the first Fiorenza's Blading Jam at Nico's home in Jesi, a wonderful and vernacular village on the adriatic coast of Italy.
I've known Jason for a decade now and the first word that comes to mind when thinking about him is 'dedication'. And the second one is 'leader', no doubt. During the past years Jason used to skate no-fun-at-all-super-high-dead-drop-rails on a daily basis with a to-do list of tricks to improve his skills. This meant that he was skating alone most of the time because nobody in his city and just a few in Italy would be able to skate the same spots. Today, Jason has grown to the best all around blader that Italy has to offer and his attitude makes him a role model for the young and a great asset to the Italian scene. He is always the first to put his blades on and the last to put them off. His dedication is contagious.
Skipass is the oldest contest still alive in Italy. It's a five days fair for winter sport with blading, skateboarding, ski and snowboard contests and Moto-X demos with thousands of visitors. Their main sponsor is Nissan. This year, the park was built by Vans and was not too street-like with not many lines, a bank to 3 different ledges, a manual pad with a curb in the middle and a couple ledges. At first the bladders were disappointed by the small size of this "fingerboard park". But in the end everybody had fun enjoying this indoor street session.
When Pietro asked me to write a few lines about the jam session in Mogliano Veneto – that's right near the Valo factory, by the way – a couple of days ago I was seriously confused. Seriously.
It wasn't my first time in San Marino's Fardamatti Skatepark but it was my first competition there and I had so much fun! There was no pressure, it was just a session with all my homies!
It's about 7am and we are on the outskirts of Milan in Italy, searching for the hotel which will serve as housing for the next 3 days. Warren Digne, the conductor of the tour took care of booking it and it is the honeyed voice of our GPS which took us right to its front door. After a short tour at the reception, surprise, we will not be in the space provided, but in apartments a few steps away.
Last week my friend Jason Adriani called me saying that he got a message from Adrien Anne who told him that he will be in Milan with the Nomades Tour during the week end. I thought that I should take this chance to have a good session and to take pictures for my website, so I packed up my skates and my camera and took a train to Milan on Thursday.
It rained all day today. I am now writing from Milan, Italy where we are on our 3rd day of the Nomades Tour. I have now officially been on the road for a month and 2 days and I uh... am not actually sure how to feel about it, haha. Life has changed quite a bit for me in the last month and a half. Before I left I was living in Orange County and was a Raw Vegan for 2 and a half months. Now I am not living in Orange County any more, am back on the road till at least August 16th (when RB Cali Tour ends) and have been basically on the bread, cheese, beer, and fizzy water diet since I have been in Europe. I love fizzy water.
After the price giving at the Fise we left straight to Italy for the RB 2012 Collection presentation. In total it was a 950 km drive which took us 8 hours. I started driving the first 2 hours but soon I felt my eyes getting heavy. So Rob took over and drove almost straight to Italy, thanks to the Red Bull he took 2 hours before arriving.
