Using the empty space between my second and third wheel, I plant the groove on the edge of the step, and in one kick I'm out the driveway. Gliding on 223rd street, passing the students going to school, I give the bike lane a new name, the blade lane. I arrive at Chuck's house and we're on our way to the Wednesday morning blade ritual with genuine people that I am honored to still be blading with.
Ivan Narez, Erik Stokley, and I arrived at Jon and Viola Julio’s loft around 4:30 Thursday morning. Ivan slept most of the way in pure exhaustion from finalizing the details on getting copies of the Shred ‘Til You’re Dead II book, DVD, and Blu Ray that were releasing the next day. By that time, I had been awake nearly 24 hours and about five of those were driving from Walnut Creek to Santa Ana.
People who were lucky enough to be in the Santa Ana, California area this past Friday evening were able to get the see the world premier of Amir Amadi's blade flick "Voodoo Show" at the historic Yost Theatre.
On his personal Twitter account Brian Krans describes himself with the following words: 'Writer. Rollerblader. Jackass.' As simple as this sounds, it's seems the easiest way to describe his character.
Jon Julio has been a part of blading since its inception. Besides inventing tricks in the early days, Jon has grown with the sport in both terms of talent and professional accolades.
Checking in with the man behind Valo, Mr Jon Julio.
It was a beautiful hot sunny day August 6th in Santa Ana California where the 2011 Blader Cup all went down. Pro skaters and dedicated participants flocked from all around to condone in such a glorious event located on the historic 4th st. business marketplace in southern Orange County. The skater's busted their asses off all day for the top prize of $3000, but in the end only one pulled through and took the grand prize (Brian Aragon).
Sometimes the best ideas are the ones that hit you spontaneously: In just 3 weeks Jon Julio and crew set up their game plan for 'The Blading Cup' which will take place at the beginning of August in Santa Ana, USA. Ryan Loewy hit up Jon to give you a quick overview of what to expect. The line-up for the comp already reads impressive and the guys managed to plant this event right into the busy festivities that will go down the same weekend in downtown Santa Ana.
After a week of non-stop rain in New York City, we finally had a day in the sun to shred. Foley square would be the meet up location for the “End of the World” session with the Valo Team. Bladers came from all boroughs in NYC for a chance to hang out and skate with some of their favorite pros. Present were Jon Julio, Erik Bailey, Franco Cammayo, Alex Broskow, Ivan Narez, Brandon Smith and Victor Arias. The session began on the steps of the Supreme Court Building, where people seemed to be getting worked coming off the court house gap.
Check out this sweet edit featuring tricks and interviews from some well-known pro skaters shot during the Winterclash 2011!
Jon Julio's dealin' with quite the luxury problems in this edit, the man simply has too many skates to choose from... Shot and chopped by Ivan Narez.
Check out this great profile Jon Julio did with MSN. Blading is not his lifestyle – it's his life.
Jon got some clips on his 36th birthday and shares his thoughts about life on the blades past 30 as well as updates us on the filming process for his upcoming section in 'V'.
