Photographer Stephanie Barthelmess set up a little photo booth at the X-Mas Jam in Hamburg, Germany last year. These photos are further effort of ours to make it easier for you to decide wether or not you should be attending this year's event which is going to take place this weekend. As if it even needed consideration... there is absolutely no reason not to go. Enjoy the photos!
For this years Grindhouse trip I had something different in mind as what we did in the past years. I didn’t want to tour through Europe, but spend a few days in the mecca of our sport and have a good time there without having the stress of driving the car from one city to another.
The Chosen Few Germany competition had a big turn out. We had right around 300+ people there and the competition was a success. Grindhouse was our premium sponsor for this competition. Thanks to them we had a pretty good cash prize for our top places. Chosen Few comps have a few twists that make the competition a little more difficult but also a little more rewarding.
As I got to know Gabriel Hyden we were like 13 or 14 years old. We got in touch through a msgboard where he was more than just an active user. Back then everyone knew him as 'Gape' and lots of people made fun of him when he started his own clothing company back then. The first time we met up was shortly after that when we went on a two week skating vacation in Austria. There it happened, he fully got me.
Since we've known Spira, we have watched him evolve as a person. I first met him in Texas at the Hoedown, we were instantly drawn to his style and the way he carried himself. We wanted him to ride for Revolution. Next, we had our first Rev. Alaska trip, Spira was borderline out of control crazy. Our final night in AK, Nick Wood had Spira in a headlock on the way home from the bar trying to keep him under control. When you have someone like Nick acting as the moderator, you know the situation is wild. Then, he met his wife Sessy. She was the best thing to happen to him. She got his life back on track, and he regained his focus to follow his passion to skate again. Then, he and Sessy had their lovely baby Arden. Spira learned what is most important in life, and his priorities changed. Now, he is balanced. He has Arden, his wife Sessy, and skating. Everyday he tries to be the best father, husband, and skater he can be. That is all that matters.

First held in 1996, the X-Mas Jam has been going strong for many years now. Known for righteous skating and good atmosphere, this event is here to stay for another 15 years. Easily. Check out a bunch of photographs from the competition as well as quotes of people that attended the '10-edition of the Jam to find out more about the vibe of an event that has skaters coming from the Netherlands, Denmark, Poland as well as France every year to celebrate Rollerblading at the I-Punkt Skateland in Hamburg.
Are you ready for the traditional Xmas Jam Hamburg? It seems like Europe is gathering for this year's last big competition. The organizer (Maik Lojewski) not only expect the German rolling crowd to represent in Hamburg - but also a lot of people from different other countries in Europe and some special guests. The local scene in Hamburg is pretty stoked about the upcoming event. We just put together a short Max Visser pre-session edit to increase the tension for this year's Xmas Jam. And as you might have expected: Be-Mag will be in Hamburg to report live from the event. So make sure to check back here.
