The World Rolling Series has introduced a new addition to their already successful competitive format. 'Uploaded', a online video format, allows competitors from around the world to upload their own edits in order to win prizes and points within WRS. It combines the concepts of mass generated edits over the recent years with people who want to compete in a different scope. There are those who express their riding best in front of crowds under the pressure of direct competition, which in the past have been the ones able to succeed in a competitive nature. Now, those who work best in front of the camera at their own pace have the opportunity to find competitive success where it did not exist before. WRS representatives Daniel Kinney and Kato Mateu got together with Be-Mag with the intention of answering some questions and cracking open all that is 'Uploaded.'
Blading needs more shops. When's the last time you tried on a pair of skates at an actual skate shop? Yes, not many have the opportunity to pick up their goods like that. But it isn't only a matter of over-the-counter experience that may (or may not) include professional advice on what to get; local shops literally "make" scenes. This is only one of the topics that are discussed in this Company Profile with Roc City Skates out of Rochester, NY. Others being dedication and love for the sport, entrepreneurship, permits and a certain unnamed jerk. Read on.
This must have been the nicest weekend Jacksonville had ever seen. Definitely hot, but perfect skating weather. We arrived at the park around noon on Friday, several hours before the start of the Under 18 division contest. After a few to-do's and touch ups, the Under 18 was under way and went off without a hitch. I remember some tricks from this contest that made me wonder if these kids where really under 18. Such as Zach Pollak's Full Cab Ally Oop Mizou, cess slide in, then his huge disaster back Royale on the cement ledge, or Tyler Huston's Tru Fishbrain. Everyone did an amazing job! Congrats to Zach for taking home first. Later that night, it was straight to the MacBook with Scotty Swemba by my side to work on the first Be-Mag live update.
Jason Reyna went to Bitter Cold Showdown this year and made an edit. Here you go.
Mike Torres aka "this gifted son of a bitch" produced this new edit for Roc City Skates, with Roc City Skates. Peep Nate Hall, Tim Adams, Grant Hazelton, Steve Bruning and said son of a bitch murk the streets of Rochester, NY.
The past three years have been nothing short of an adventure. I've had the great pleasure of helping communities and small businesses market themselves, helping local music artists expand their horizons, working with professional athletes, documenting exciting events, creating short films, and of course, traveling with some of my best friends in the world and documenting our experiences. This isn't just my production reel, this is a look into my world. Enjoy. -Mike Torres
This edit was put together in record time with the help of contributed footage from USD riders all around the world as a gift to the heads that have supported USD from 97’ till Infinity. Happy New Years from USD. It’s a celebration bitches.
Grant Hazelton, Mike Torres, Nate Hall, Chris Py, Dave Poe, Nick Demarchi, Ricky Coster, Steve Bruning, Mike Lanthier, Malik Glenn, & Stefan Brandow have just been featured in this sweet edit by Ricky Coster for ROCcitySkates. Not sure how they are related to the shop but who cares about stuff like that when there is skating this good?
The 15th and final Hoedown. This year it was pretty much a TX comp and it just shows how strong the scene is here. Props to John Sullivan for taking the win! -Anthony Medina
Roc City Skates co-owner Grant Hazelton and local awesome Mike Torres spent a couple hours skating at the Sweden Town Park near SUNY Brockport.
The past two years have been filled with blading, old friends, new friends, booze, babes, stoops, limousines, cacti, new cities, raging, nogrinding, airplanes, and filming. In these two years we’ve compiled quite a bit of footage. Some of it has been seen, most of it has not. So it’s about time we make an ongoing video series to get that footage out there, you know… Enjoy Tim Adams skating from the 2009-2010 era!
Enjoy Steve Brunings sweet street style in his brand new edit. Brought to you be Mike Torres.
