It is known, without question, that New York is one of the most celebrated and active scenes in rollerblading. It has produced a plethora of companies, talented skaters, and competitions that have left a major impact on the rollerblading community. Competitions, in particular, are the one catalyst that I believe really brings people out and draws the blade community closer together people come out to show what they've got and, at times, unconsciously, to support each other, which in turn, unifies the scene as a whole. Young guns and old timers, all age ranges, colors and creeds come out, all for the love of rollerblading. So when I heard that Trevor Johnson was putting together a new street competition in Queens, I was inclined to ask him a few questions and help spread the word. I sat down with Trevor to talk about the need for another street competition, how he got the idea, who he's working with, and more, all resulting in a testament to the fact that New York truly is one of the greatest scenes in the world.
Throughout the long Winter on the East Coast, the Tri-State area spends Thurday nights at Shields Skate Park in Flemington, NJ. Skaters from New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Connecticut drive out for the blade only session every week. Ever since Vinny Minton release the 2011 Pre Bittercold Showdown edit, I had been inspired to create a tribute to his creativity.
The Escape from New York Tour is an idea I came up with after spending a month and a half in California earlier this year. As I toured up and down the coastline I met some of the most amazing and memorable people I have ever encountered. I found myself submersed in deep conversation with industry legends such as Louis Zamora, Justin Eisinger, and Lonnie Gallegos. I can’t thank these guys enough for the insight they bestowed on me because without them I would have never manifested such a project.
'The Breakfast Club' is the newest video project out of the Netherlands, aka Holland, or for some people just Amsterdam! That is precisely where the maker of this project is from. We are speaking of Cavin Brinkmann, supported by his sidekick, the no less infamous dog Bobby! Cavin is the dude that you see dancing in those crazy Dutch edits. Do not get the wrong idea though, Cavin is a guy that puts all his energy into what he does. Living in Amsterdam has not made him a drug addict that would abandon skating for a high – skating and filming skating is his high!

Victor started the contest series to bring more awareness to New York City's Rollerblading scene. This year the contest was held Uptown in a place locals have deemed "The Pit." With its variety of obstacles and acceptance from the parks department, "The Pit" created a perfect setting for the competition for a second year in a row.

These clips are from all over the city either at a late night session after work or just random occurrences while out and about with the crew. Filmed by Michael Valenzuela, Kyle Sola, Nigel Hosang, Sean Engler, and David Toro, who also made the edit.
If you haven't watched my last edit of a session at the new Tri State Skate location than you haven't read my last write up and you don't know I just spent a weekend in NYC. So to catch you up, Erod mentioned a trip he was taking out east and I decided to buy myself a flight "you know how I love traveling". With only a few days to skate going up against the weather conditions we managed to pull some street clips together for your enjoyment. This trip was just pure love for the blades. No stress continual action and content. Expect more to come. Hope you enjoy! -Demetrios George

Luckily, I was able to meet up with James during his only day off last week for a brief session at the Pier 25 skate plaza located in Manhattan, NY. James dusted off the cobwebs from his blades and quickly got back into the skating rhythm as we managed to beat the the rain, clouds, and park closing. -Jasepi Calamari

The NYC Street Invitational is a Pro/Am invite-only event founded by Pro blader and long time resident of New York City, Billy O’Neill. The event will be a completely legitimate, real “street” contest taking place underneath a highway in the heart of Williamsburg, Brooklyn. Permits and insurance are already secured for the location and all obstacles will be available within the space provided. Unlike other street contests there will be no issue with the police breaking up the event and there will be no traveling from spot-to-spot. This is going to be one of the first, fully legitimate, real “street” contests since IMYTA. Many of the world’s top Pro’s have already confirmed that they will be here to battle for the $10,000 that will be distributed among the top 3.
