It is known, without question, that New York is one of the most celebrated and active scenes in rollerblading. It has produced a plethora of companies, talented skaters, and competitions that have left a major impact on the rollerblading community. Competitions, in particular, are the one catalyst that I believe really brings people out and draws the blade community closer together people come out to show what they've got and, at times, unconsciously, to support each other, which in turn, unifies the scene as a whole. Young guns and old timers, all age ranges, colors and creeds come out, all for the love of rollerblading. So when I heard that Trevor Johnson was putting together a new street competition in Queens, I was inclined to ask him a few questions and help spread the word. I sat down with Trevor to talk about the need for another street competition, how he got the idea, who he's working with, and more, all resulting in a testament to the fact that New York truly is one of the greatest scenes in the world.
Usually ODNY wasn't suppose to cover this competition but a good friend was awesome enough to hook up the media pass. Immediately when looking at the obstacles, the NY Invitational sets it self apart from all other comps. Offering unique spots to skate like an old beat up Cadillac, constructions tubes, U-haul trailer, and a huge dumpster to name a few. Not to mention that this comp was very reminiscent of the old IMYTA competitions. The obstacles were all put together by the craftsmanship of Jose Disla & the C.O. team along with other NY locals that showed up the day of construction to support and offer a helping hand. New York owes such a great competition to the Bernal Heights Collective - a medicinal marijuana shop from San Francisco whom sponsored the events large prize.
After a week of non-stop rain in New York City, we finally had a day in the sun to shred. Foley square would be the meet up location for the “End of the World” session with the Valo Team. Bladers came from all boroughs in NYC for a chance to hang out and skate with some of their favorite pros. Present were Jon Julio, Erik Bailey, Franco Cammayo, Alex Broskow, Ivan Narez, Brandon Smith and Victor Arias. The session began on the steps of the Supreme Court Building, where people seemed to be getting worked coming off the court house gap.
The latest "Let's Roll New York" weekly session recently went down at the new Pier 62. Ryan Loewy and Cesar Macay delivered this great photoset of all the action - including the announcement of Create Originals' newest pro, Montre Livingston!
Sam DeAngelis's photography has been popping up a lot lately. If you read online rolling media than you've seen his work shooting the NY and NJ scene. Want to know more about him? So did we, so we checked in, and Sam delivered this nice little interview along with some exclusive shots!
Dan Barnes has been holding it down for Buffalo and Upstate New York for years now. Dan isn't one to seek the spotlight, but those who know Dan know his smoooooth skating style and laid back personality. He's finally coming into some of the attention he deserves having recently been picked up by Razors. Dan and Nick DeMarchi worked hard on this interview capturing street skating pics all around Buffalo as soon as the snow started to melt. Enjoy this long overdue profile on Dan Barnes!
The NYC scene has been blowing up over the last year or two - again becoming what it was years ago: one of the global meccas of rollerblading that defines a culture. One of the companies playing a part in this transformation is the online magazine Art of Rolling (AOR). We hope you enjoy this interview with Angelo Ferrer, the man behind AOR!
I recently realized that, despite now riding flow for USD, Tim has never had a major profile done and that the great photos of his skating on his Facebook haven't been published.... So it seemed time to do something about that.
It's a lot of work to make a DVD, even when one puts all of their energy into it. But when you have to focus on finishing high school/getting into college, a relationship with your girlfriend of two years, your own skating and other aspects of life and work, things can be ever harder.

Eric Miller is a ninja turtle (Google this if you are clueless) who shows us that falling is not always just an option but rather an art form. Once you get past this you can see that he is just as clean in the air as he is shredding his frames.
