5 questions with Oli Benet.
As I sit here in Istanbul Airport, ever alert for the need to dash to the bathroom to avoid a calamity, I think about the events that led me here. Over a year ago a friend called me and told me that there was a group of skaters coming from Dakar to do a show in 'Parc de la Ciutadella' as part of a Dakar/Barcelona collaboration of culture. There was a meet the day before, and the skaters asked if I would join them. I arrived at this palace of a house in the centre of Barcelona, and found no-one related to the event. I was underdressed and considering leaving, feeling rather out of place. I decided to wait it out and how glad I am that I did.
What started out as an option for a cheap and efficient form of transportation for the inmates of the infamous Powerhouse in Barcelona, has quickly evolved into a stand-alone branch of Aggressive Skating. Now, a year later you may have noticed these unorthodox looking frames and wheels on display at just about all major shops and retailers. Unorthodox maybe, but only to the eyes of the unengaged. Check out this article and get the low down on the latest trend in blading, or inevitably be passed over by your mates that keep up with the times. And, you better believe they'll be moving fast.
From around the world, 21 men and one woman ages 30 and up, answered the call for submissions to be a part of a just-for-fun online skate edit on the Be-Mag Msgboard. Embracing all disciplines (from street to vert) and skill levels, this edit is a 9:30 minute long journey of the unexpected, which proves once and for all that you are only as young as you feel.
On day 3 of the tour, we woke up to a sunny Tarragona's day, everything looked perfect, and we decided to go Reus Skatepark to meet with the other bladers and start the sesh. The weather was super hot under the killer spanish sun. For lunch time, we moved to a bar to have some tapas.
We arrived early at the Villanova la Geltru so we decided to eat an early lunch made up purely of meat, grease, fried foods, eggs and grease and went on to the park to represent. It was good to see some familiar faces of the Barcelona scene alongside a ridiculous amount of scooter riders. I had heard scootering was on the rise, but this was absolutely ridiculous. There was over 40 scooter riders per square meter.
Inercia is the most important shop in Spain, supporting a crew of the most representative and best street skaters from Barcelona. This crew just decided to have a chill weekend skating parks in towns around Barcelona, having good times with all the kids and bladers around!

Check out this sweet edit of Oli Benet and find out more about Devotion BCN. Here are some of Oli´s thoughts on the idea behind it: Devotion BCN is a channel that is aiming to support the underground scene in Barcelona including music and sports, and educate the new generation about people that live in the city and industries outside the commercial and mainstream. This video is aimed for non-rollerbladers in Barcelona and Spain, and thanks to it being also online it can also appeal to a wider audience. The idea behind the project is to promote rollerblading to potential new rollerbladers and was not aimed for the current inline market specifically but to help a new generation find a new vocation! Thanks to Kepa Gainza for the edit. - Oli Benet
Oli wanted to film a complete profile but he got injured and he could not finish it. So enjoy what he has got so far.
