Adrian Deck is way more awesome than Google Translate. The latter never won Winterclash, shredded the hell out of multiple handrails at once, or made the following badass blading edit. Adrian took the time to talk to us about skating, social media, anger, pain and his home country. “It’s alright, just my fingers innit!” That statement came from Jake Ricketts, after falling far and fast to the concrete, breaking two fingers and going back to nail the trick and the AM first place. It pretty much sums up the badassery that rollerblading in general and the UK scene in particular is so proud of, and it was on full display at Laced weekend.
Zagreb has had a long love-hate relationship with rollerblading, ever since 1995. A few generations of skaters have come and gone, dropping rollerblading for more trendy stuff like skateboarding and drugs. There has always been a small group of people that kept things going, with edits, a few homemade videos and contests of all kinds. The first of the monthly rollerblader sessions in the indoor skatepark Supica was a call up, to see who's still alive and well.

I had seen touristbladers before of course. Most of the time you would run into touristbladers at the local skatespots, and every once in a while you could spot a small flock of touristbladers in the wild. But nothing could have prepared me for the amount of touristbladers I witnessed the days leading up to one of the most anticipated real street events ever. Everywhere I went I encountered Mindgame hoodies, $enate backpacks, Medium sweaters and more of the like. Us Damsko Kids had been waiting for this weekend ever since it had become clear that the two grandfathers of real street contests would be working together on what was to become one of the most epic rollerblading weekends ever witnessed by man. This day had finally arrived. With it an unbelievable number of rollerbladers of all ages and nationality. Words fail to describe the awesomeness experienced by yours truly. Therefore I will not even attempt to bore you with more of my insane ramblings, but will let the pictures speak for themselves.
You don't just get the name 'From Hell' replaced with your actual, Dutch farmers name. This is a level of awesome that has to be worked hard for. You will have to put all principles and dignity aside, you will have to know no shame and you must act fearles at all times. Simply put, you have to not give a fuck and pull hardcore stunts on even more terrifying spots. So you can understand why us Dutch folk round here take great pride in the fact that Edwin 'From Hell' Wieringh is one of ours.
I was fortunate enough to meet Eric in person this summer while visiting the Adapt Brand crew in Holland and he is a skater to look out for. Eric skates with a raw energy, has an eye for unique spots, and is always down to smoke cigarettes or have a drink or two.

Here in Holland, we see Dick Heerkens as the Barack Obama of inline skating. And it’s not because he’s black or because he has a hot girlfriend. It’s not even because he is the president of rollerblading (that could be reason #2). Dick Heerkens is our Obama because he is so damn clever in front of the camera. Our perfect son-in-law-on-wheels is your best choice when you’re trying to introduce skating to a wider public, to get skating in the limelight of the media or to simply explain what a Fishbrain is to someone who’s never set foot in his local skatepark. Much like Barack, the 23-year old flow-rider for Rollerblade has a certain way with words that will make the most cautious girlfriends and auntie’s have respect for dropping hammers on kinkrails. Julian Bah is an extremely talented skater. He's been a controversial figure in our industry over the past few years, but regardless of his personal life or persona, his skating speaks for itself. This time it's going off with a huge event including tons of music, parties, ladies (and guys as well, so don't get all cranky, girls), booze, good vibes, good times, and of course some of the most ballin' skating of the year. There will not only be a contest for rolling, but BMX and ATB as well. This epic party is not one to be missed. So, saddle up, get that calendar marked up, and make your arrangements to get moving, today!
Pull out your Droids and iPhones, open up that calendar app, and set November 20th on high- reminder alert because Rollkings.com is hosting the second annual Believe in Blading Jam. The event will be held at the Transgression Skatepark in Edinburgh. The name alone should get the fire lit in your gut because if you can't believe in blading, then you shouldn't be here. Represent your sport and make it out for this one. There will be under-16, am, and girls sections for the comp with a lot of prizes for the taking. Last year's RollKing event was a day jam-packed with insane skating, so you certainly do not want to miss this one.
On November 25th, there will be a Street Jam in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. The event will move through three street locations and eventually wind up at a skatepark for the final section. If you are from the UAE you may want to join the gathering.

On Saturday, November 26th, Rollvation presents The Invasion Rollerblading Contest held at The Promise Skatepark in Heerlen, the Netherlands (close to the German border). The contest will start at 1pm and will last until 9pm. Afterwards there will be a thrilling afterparty with DJ Sanderson, Batja, Bambix, Tantrum Desire, Sumavoid, Striner, VJ Loudanov and a special guest at Cafe Nieuwe Nor. The Air Fise 2011 Rollerblading and Wakeboarding competition hits Palais Omnisports in Marseille, France on December 9th. Why is this going to be such an epic day? Well, other than the already expected great skating, we get a chance to see Chris Haffey make an attempt at setting a new world record. He claims to not only go for it, but stomp the landing and make it legit in the world's eyes.
To celebrate over a decade of Ground Control frames, comes the film to define a generation. The UK Premiere of the much anticipated Ground Control DVD, a film by local Simon Mulvaney. The premiere is on December 9th at the Rampworx Skatepark in Liverpool, United Kingdom.
After a year of filming the Gypsy Crew from Montreal (Canada) has finally finished Family Matters 2. The video will be premiered on December 16th in Montreal. On December 17th 2011, the WRS 2011 Bbq and Bowl Bash will be held at the Robb Field Skatepark in San Diego, CA. Bring your blades, something to grill, and come session to celebrate the year in blading. Free skating, food and friends, join the fun and come hang out.
