Yuri Botelho grew up in Brazil and spent more than a decade in Bilbao, Spain. He recently made the move to Barcelona and couldn't be happier in his new hometown: 'There's just too many spots!'
When I first watched Alex skating, I knew he has something special and I felt that I needed to help him to progress and get all his goals. Now, 4 years later, he's 15 and is the best AM in Spain, and probably one of our most talented skaters in years. So focussed, he is determined to get to the top and I know he's gonna be one of the big names in the future.
My name is Mikel Artega, I have started skating with Aritz Ortega and he is one of the guys I know best. Since we were kids, his passion has always been skating. Everyday we went rolling from sun up until the sun went down. Even when he was really young, you could notice that he was going to be "someone" because he always stands out over the others. He has the "gift" and a technique that you cannot see in other skaters. He rarely fails, but when he does, he learns from it an keeps on and on. He is a really focused rider.
Three Dutchies recently embarked upon a 6.000 kilometer car road trip from Amsterdam through France up to Malaga in Spain and back to Amsterdam. Gas is pretty expensive these days, and they could have traveled by plane - especially in Europe where there's a high amount of low-cost airlines. But check out what you would miss when you decide to travel by plane instead of traveling in a van. For some of us this is the best thing about rollerblading: Traveling with some of your best friends and your skates! Isn't it?
In the summer of 2011 my mates from Grindhouse told me they wanted to do a tour again, and of course I wanted to be part of it. It's very special to meet up with the team and hang out for more than a week, as you always learn a lot about yourself and about the others on tour with you.
Every single year the Grindhouse team embarks upon a road tour. This year's tour took the German Grindhouse team to Europe's rolling mecca, Barcelona. There, the crew consisting of Sacha Lopez, Daniel Prell, Maik Lojewski, Timm Kittlitz, Alex Rudolf and Daniel Gourski destroyed every obstacle and party place in their path. You know the deal: When the Grindhouse is on tour, madness is the daily routine. Here you can peep the first part of the "Grindhouse Tour 2011 in Barcelona"-series featuring Sacha Lopez. Sacha injured his hands some days before the tour, but obviously this didn't hold him back.
Enanoh, was the name given to Mr Marc Moreno, somewhere around the late 90's back when Marc was the youngest and by far the smallest little lad in amongst a pack of evolving rolling spanish giants. Enanoh, translated from Spanish to English = dwarf. Time, brings great changes, today Marc is the tallest amongst his allies, he is not just an icon to the younger generation but is looked upon as an inspiration amongst many of the Giants who once help to raise a dwarf.
I was in Italy last week and I began to do the write up for our stay in Barcelona when I somehow just deleted the whole thing. What was most interesting to me was that I wasn't mad. I mean, I felt myself start to get mad and start to react like any rational person might after doing such a thing, but this time was different. I felt like I had the option not to. I mean, it already happened, and it was by no means a conscious move towards righteousness but it was already said and done with. So after having to tell Greg and Sven about it I let it go. A pretty awesome transformation on my behalf. For myself anyways.
On day 3 of the tour, we woke up to a sunny Tarragona's day, everything looked perfect, and we decided to go Reus Skatepark to meet with the other bladers and start the sesh. The weather was super hot under the killer spanish sun. For lunch time, we moved to a bar to have some tapas.
We arrived early at the Villanova la Geltru so we decided to eat an early lunch made up purely of meat, grease, fried foods, eggs and grease and went on to the park to represent. It was good to see some familiar faces of the Barcelona scene alongside a ridiculous amount of scooter riders. I had heard scootering was on the rise, but this was absolutely ridiculous. There was over 40 scooter riders per square meter.
