The pre-session is in full swing. It's pretty cold in the building, but the edit we have here make us feel a bit warmer right now. We are happy to present you a first action view on Winterclash 2012. While you are watching this short flick back home on your cozy warm sofa, we are getting back in the cold to get something hot for you.
When we were filming for the CITYHOPPER film I realized there was a greater potential for the footage we had shot up until then. Considering that more than half of the great shots we had made and good vibes we had documented would not be shown in the finished short skating film, the idea of making an online documentary as well as a 'regular' skating film dawned on me. The idea grew as we were hitting up more and more memorable spots. I thought this concept was just too fresh to go unexplained to the masses. Most rollerbladers, or even BMXers and Skateboarders, can get into the idea of creating more possibilities for themselves by altering the terrain you skate on, though this is not a concept most ordinary people grasp. And why would they? It is not like they 'enjoy' architecture is the same manner as we skating folks do.
Rollerblade rider Jeremy Suarez has been flying under the radar for quite a long time now. We're not sure why that is though. The tricks he pulls at park competitions all over Europe sure aren't the reason for this. Watch out for Jeremy at Winterclash 2012!
Finally the wait is over! Sven, once again shows his skills as a Skater and also as a visionary and project manager! Its been while since Rollerblading had a concept that can capture the attention of the masses the way that Cityhopper did. Check out the vid and judge for yourself if it breaks out of the norm of Rollerblading edits, we are convinced that it does and that such projects will "Spread the Word!" in an absolutely positive way. Enjoy..
We are reporting live from Den Bosch in the Netherlands! Just a couple of minutes ago a local politician handed Sven his first ever Pro model. It took a successful 18 year long career combined with 16 years of riding and working for Rollerblade to receive the crown of it all, a pro skate. This is not the common Pro model story, which should be obvious if you have been following the media over the last few days.
With so many rolling edits out there it is becoming increasingly difficult to come up with something unique and exciting. In recent years it seems like the only way to get noticed is to go bigger than anyone has gone before or add in that extra rotation before landing on a rail. Over the past year Sven Boekhorst and his team have been working on a different approach on how they could grab everyone's attention, both inside the skate world as well as outside our cozy realm. What they came up with was a project called 'CityHopper'. In an attempt to take things to a different level the outcome truly shines as unique. Sven was really open to letting us in on this little secret that he had been hiding. Take some time to read up and find out what exactly 'CityHopper' is all about. We think you will be just as pleased as we were.
Saturday September the 3rd, Lausanne, Switzerland. It's time for the skaters to get qualified! Amateurs and girls had the chance to skate under the sun, but for the pros it wasn't the same, the rain came as a trouble maker and only 2 of 6 heats could skate. This edit by Adrien Anne is worth watching nonetheless!
And here is another prize raffle for all you contest lovers. This time we team up with the organizers from the traditional Lausanne contest. So do you want to retrace a bit of rolling history and meet other skaters from all over the world? Then you better take part in our ticket raffle below. All you need to do is to answer a simple question. More details below.
After the price giving at the Fise we left straight to Italy for the RB 2012 Collection presentation. In total it was a 950 km drive which took us 8 hours. I started driving the first 2 hours but soon I felt my eyes getting heavy. So Rob took over and drove almost straight to Italy, thanks to the Red Bull he took 2 hours before arriving.
We started our journey from the Barcelona airport to pick up Svenergy. Once he got situated and we tetris-ed our luggage in the Rollerblade vehicle, we started on our way to Montpellier. I must admit, My nose was buried in my sketchbook almost the whole trip. When we arrived, we settled into our badass bungalow right on the ocean front. After we brought our luggage inside, we headed over to the bar Fise had sponsored. I was pleased to see that the name of this particular bar was the “Manhattan”, dressed appropriately with red, white, and blue stars and stripes almost in every direction. I was almost helpless to feel anything but a little cocky seeing on how I'm a southern blood American.
Maxime Genoud, Guillaume Le Gentil and Sven Boekhorst were having a small pre session at Sven's local skatepark. Later that day they went to Area51 Skatepark to skate the Winterclash park. Filmed and edited by Axel v. Dijk.
