As 2011 draws to close, we can look back fondly on a year full of incredible edits. Hammers have been laid and creative lines have been laced. So while you’re recovering from the festive celebrations, crack open another can and have a look back at this small reminder. Here are the ten most popular videos from 2011!
What started out as an option for a cheap and efficient form of transportation for the inmates of the infamous Powerhouse in Barcelona, has quickly evolved into a stand-alone branch of Aggressive Skating. Now, a year later you may have noticed these unorthodox looking frames and wheels on display at just about all major shops and retailers. Unorthodox maybe, but only to the eyes of the unengaged. Check out this article and get the low down on the latest trend in blading, or inevitably be passed over by your mates that keep up with the times. And, you better believe they'll be moving fast.
The “Italian Bladers Connection” was founded in the early winter months of 2011. When a group of friends was on their way to Winterclash, they figured out they had to do something about the small, but rather strong scene from Italy. They decided to put all Italian blader contests and events under the same banner. Lucas Brandi, Jason Adriani, Nicola Fiorenza, Pietro Firrincieli and Marco Valera shared their ideas which led to the creation of a layout for the championships, which turned out to be a great success.
Creativity is a big part of our sport and a persons ability to reinvent their skating at every new spot they come to is held in high regards. With our new category "Rolling Artist", Be-Mag tries to shed light onto the various forms skaters express their creativity in other areas than skating. Dominic Sagona found some time to talk about his passion for Drum 'n' Bass with us while he stayed in Spain at Powerhouse.
The Gladiator contest was born in the mind of Cédric Duchemin, and along with his partner in crime Stéphane Luchie, they brought this project to life and made it one of the best park contests of the year, eventually earning itself 3 stars on the WRS rankings. Both really good skaters and great people, those we call “Duch & Stouf” put a lot of work and energy on the line to make this event happen. Originally meant to be a trilogy, the great atmosphere and positive response from the scene kept it going until this year, for its sixth edition. Whether or not there will be another one in the future is still uncertain, but we can only hope the crew finds a way to bring us another incredible event next year!
After two pseudo trailers it's time for the real thing. Making a 3 minute skating edit wasn't worth the trip, people had to see what Malta was actually about! I'm glad this makes my Maltese friend Brandon proud of his island. It's even more beauti...
As most of you probably know by now, Malta is a small island with big potential. I thought it would be a shame to simply make a 3 minutes edit of a 10 day Tour. There were so many things to see, I'm even gutted I didn't film more stuff is some other cities we visited during our stay, but in my opinion Malta deserve it's first real Rollerblading Experience. We've skated "hard" for 10 days and even after that, Brandon managed to get some extra clips for the video. So here goes, Official Trailer/Teaser! ENJOY!
Our journey continues and we've made some new friends and we bring you for this update some more stories and screenshots of the upcoming "Malta Experience Edit". Enjoy. (Tour is over, so the days mentioned in the text are from last week!)
Over the past couple of years, the Tri-State Area (New York, New Jersey and Connecticut) has lost too many indoor skate parks to count. From Hackettstown in New Jersey to the infamous Academy Skate Park in Connecticut; we have lost too many indoor parks due to lack of funding and support. We have endorsed endless hours of blading and hard earned cash to spend late Sunday nights lacing tricks in local parks. Kids grow up in these facilities and inevitably they have to watch the place they were raised in get torn down to the ground. One of our last surviving indoor Skate Parks in the Tri-State Area is Shield's Skate Park in Flemington, NJ. Run by Mr. Shields himself, the park has gained a large community of rollerbladers from all over the Tri-State Area. Bladers assemble every Thursday night for a balls-to-the-wall session of stunts and filming/photography sessions. The park certainly favors rollerblading with a huge half pipe, tons of round coping, and creative transitions. Amazing skaters such as Franco Cammayo, Erick Rodriguez and Dave Lang (and so many more) have thrown down some of the most unbelievable lines I have ever seen.
Did you ever think that one of the best memories from a visit to the Powerhouse would include an epic police chase down one-way streets by three motorcycles/scooters, getting stopped, searched and your skates taken away? Adrien Anne, Diego Guilloud and Josh Glowicki were given a rude awakening by Barcelona’s boys in blue. Adrien gives us his take on the adventure.
Kizer are extremely proud to welcome Mathieu Ledoux to their pro-team. Who wouldn't?
Dominic is possibly the world's most stylish skater, and without doubt one of the biggest icons of the sport. Dominic chose a UFS Throne with all the highest specs. The Kizer Fluid 4 has taken the anti-rocker market by storm, and the USD A-Top Phoenix Liner is USD's best liner yet. The skate includes Dom's new BHC Pro wheels, Abec 7 bearings and UC Anti-Rocker wheels. Stylish Skates? That's an understatement!
The new USD Carbon III Black 2012 is out now. USD did a good job flying under the radar with these till their release. Beautiful skates!
Check out Jeremy Soderburg skating the Carbon 2 Olive. As usual, Jeremy amazes with some extremely technical tricks. Edit by Lonnie Francisco. Enjoy...
Check out which news posts and articles were viewed the most in the last week of 2011.
Here is another edit from the Spaniard 'Ivan Malvido' who isn't above tackling the dirtiest and ugliest street spots. Tune in for some sweet shredding.
it's The Barcelona Sessions III, another window into our world. Just like the original Barcelona Sessions, or is it? If you are looking for more foot maneuvers and switch-ups, this game is not for you. -Richie Eisler
Joe's been a driving force in the UK scene for a while as well as charging through the AIL last year in the states and many mainland European events. At the young age of 19 he's got a bright future ahead of him. This edit was filmed over just a few sessions this past summer by Adam Kola, Ben Shelbourne and Ollie Thomas and edited by Joe himself.
Check out this edit of Roll Kings' 2nd Believe in Blading Competition at the new Transgression Skate Park in Edinburgh. Filmed and edited by Geoff Davies.
Brian Arnold and I headed up to Woodward east this summer. We had planned to have fellow USD Team riders Tim Phang and Jeff Dalnas meet us there but at last minute they both weren't able to make it..We hope to get back to Woodward and make the full USD edit we had hoped for sometime soon. We still had a great time skating with the campers, Woodward staff and the Fuel Tv crew who are mostly bladers in case you didn't know.. -Nick Pisciotta
