The pictures are speaking for themselves but there is one thing we want to talk about. One thing that separates the FISE stop in Malaysia from the other tour stops is religion. More than 60% of the population practice Islam and having an extreme sports event in such an environment was something totally new for each and every one of us. A few times a day the world stands still here in beautiful Malaysia. People are going to the mosque to pray and no sports or loud music is appreciated during that time. Spending your whole day in a skatepark with loud music and people screaming at you is an experience on its own but stopping everything for around 20 minutes once in a while makes you come down in just seconds. And hearing the resound of the prayers all over the city during that quiet moment is intense and the same goes for having thousands of people cheering for a contest and then walk away in just seconds to pray and come back right after just to get excited about what we do again. This has been something totally new for all of us and it makes one think about the hectic day-rhythm in other parts of the world.

Another impressive detail would be seeing the girls on blades here wearing their hijab (Muslim headscarf) underneath their helmets, doing tricks, sweating and behaving just like anyone else. It made us realize that we seriously don’t know much about other religions and that it’s mostly about prejudices when thinking that they might not be allowed to do sports or hang out with the guys riding their blades. So talking about traveling being education, this has definitely been a special trip for us.

As for the blading part, Jeerasak Tassorn from Thailand just won the open blading comp with Adrien Anne in second and Russia’s Grigory Lobko in third place. The crowd absolutely loved it and it all ended with an impressive double backflip.

Thank you to the FISE for getting us out here and thanks to all the riders and of course the huge crowd for this remarkable experience and for letting us end our year in Malaysia. Enjoy the photos and see you next time!
