While the whole week had been warm and sunny, drawing massive crowds to the annual FISE World Montpellier, fate dealt the 2018 edition a cruel blow as torrential rain started pouring on Saturday evening. Unfortunately, things weren’t bound to get any better on Sunday, eventually forcing the organizers to cancel all finals and prematurely bring the event to a close…
We weren’t afraid to get a little wet anyway: Enjoy our 5th and final Live Update, and see you all in Budapest!
As you would imagine, there won’t be much action to report on this rainy Sunday.
Nevertheless, we wanted to take the opportunity to thank everyone involved with the event over the course of the last 22 years, and more especially the massive crew of volunteers, technicians, athletes, speakers, MC’s, journalists, builders & organizers who help make this incredibly massive event a reality every year. If our generation grew up watching the X Games on TV, one can only hope the younger ones get inspired to pick up a pair of blades after witnessing the FISE madness this past week!
As we walked around the soaked festival site, the restless crews of workers had already started taking the booths apart, unplugging electricity and cleaning up the VIP area after the visit of France’s Sports Minister earlier in the afternoon. All of this under some more heavy rain, obviously, not to mention the temperatures which had also dropped to an abnormally low level for the usually warm month of May. May these pictures be a testimony to their dedication!
Last but not quite least, many thanks to you, dear readers, Instagram followers, Facebook sharers: It’s been a pleasure bringing these stories and pictures to your screen, and we hope you enjoyed the variety of formats we worked on for these different outlets. Feel free to let us know what you liked or disliked, or the kind of content you would like to see next time and we will try our best to make it happen! Until then:
