The blading resurgence is in full swing and with all of the rejuvenated energy flying around there also comes with it some incredible new products from some of blading’s longest running and most dedicated brands as well as new brands that are creating ground breaking products to fit all of your blading desires.
So we have decided to highlight some of our industries hot new items in our newest feature “Nuts and Bolts”. We will be summarizing the latest products within the blading world and give you a quick and easily digestible source to view the freshest products from all corners of the blading world from the last week.
Probably the biggest news to come in the blading world this week is the highly anticipated re-release of Brian Shima‘s iconic Shima 1 skates from Razors, which were released twenty years ago. (If that doesn’t make some of you feel old as dirt, I don’t know what will).
The re-issued skates were met with a great amount of praise as the Shima 1 skates are some of the most highly coveted and sought after pro skates in blading’s history and to have these skates available to a brand new generation is incredible. The skates seem to have some noticeable improvements, including the newer style soulplates, a reinforced lacing area and a slimmed down liner height.
The skates are available for pre-order currently and from what I hear are likely to sell out sometime this week so if you want to get yourself a pair you better do it now. (After you finish checking out the rest of the article that is!) 😉
On top of the awesome re-issued Shima skates, Razors also dropped some classic looking hoodies just in time for the winter season. So if you are wanting something cool to rock while you roll in your fresh new Shima boots, than be sure to pick up a sweet new hoodie from your favorite skateshop as well.
The next unexpected product to come up this week is the still secretive new wheel which was previewed on famous designer and founder of the creative house/fashion label Brain Dead, Kyle NG’s Instagram page. Brain Dead has partnered and collaborated with some of the biggest brands in the world such as Nike, Northface, Carhartt, Reebok and many more so to see them taking an interest in rollerblading is amazing. When a second pic was posted on Jon Julio’s social media page showing those four little dots which famously represent the Them Skates logo on the wheel, speculation started to spread about a possible collaboration between the two brands. More news behind the wheels will hopefully be available soon.
In more blade wheel news the Moonshine UHMW wheel company have branched out to the urethane world with their White Lightning wheels and a well deserved and long overdue pro wheel for Jeremy Soderburg!
Jeremy’s wheel is a size of 60mm with a 90a with rounded edges and a flat rolling surface. The wheels come in a smooth shark fin gray color with LA Dodgers blue lettering. The backside of the wheel features Moonshine’s signature mason jar logo and name in script.
The same graphic can be found on Moonshine’s new White Lightning wheel as well, which is the same profile and formula as Jeremy’s wheel but in a 59mm 92a configuration. Moonshine’s owner Juan Martinez had this to say about the new White Lightning wheels.
Just like liquid moonshine these will be made in batches always being tweaked. We may one day change the size, the hardness, or maybe add a secret ingredient to the mix but one thing they will always do is make you want to do something you might regret in the morning.
Although Jeremy wasn’t obligated to film a new promo for his new wheel, as he has earned it many times over throughout the years, he did however drop this awesome promo for the White Lightning wheels, so peep Jerm getting down in this sweet new video.
The blading resurgence created a serious demand for blading gear, especially the highly coveted Create Original graphic frames. Well we have great news as CO have just re-upped the market with their newest signature frames for blading superstar, Montre Livingston! The frames come in three different colorways, a smoky grey, a deep red and in classic black. These frames feature their customizable graphic display system if you want to switch up from the included Monkey King graphics to your own customized graphic inserts.
The Mushroom Blading guys shared a sneak peek of some uniquely colored NR90 Wizard Skating frames in a light grey and lime green colorways. The Wizard frames have become quite the rage among big wheel enthusiasts and seeing some different color options available is always welcome in the blading world which tends to play it conservative when choosing its color options. No other info on these frames are available at the moment but hopefully they should be available in the near future. Announcement on Monday (which Monday that is, has not been determined).
Our good friends at Kaltik Hardware sent us these beautiful shots of their new Ilia Savosin pro flat frames which come in a cool light purple hue as well as a brand new Kaltik K JNR skates in an awesome white and black color scheme, making them possibly some of the best looking junior skates made to date. The new frames and junior skates are headed out to shops as we speak so be sure to pick them up quick as they will inevitably sell out fast.
