The Russian Aggressive Inline championship is a landmark event for Russian rollerblading. It was our first time working with the Russian Skateboarding Federation and World Skate, and the first All-Russian children’s contest. For the Russian rollerblading scene, this kind of support in the future means big things for us.

The contest was held at the ‘Grand Skate Tour’ space in Nizhny Novgorod, Russia with the support of @EmbilyCard and @FedSkateRussia. We have invited AM and PRO riders from all over Eastern Europe to the Championship, including Kate Bedrata, the Ukraine representative.

Grand Skate Tour is a fully spec’ed out skate park with electronic timers for runs and a proper sound and lighting system. Far more luxurious than the usual skate contest! We had a mini trade show area with some of Embily team’s tour photosby Anton Seleznev, booths for TGP, PLASTIK, COYOTE Artifacts, and COMMUNITY Shop. Ivan Chanchikov and Dima Aleksandrov held warmup lessons for those in attendance.

We made it a point to invite children from across Eastern Europe, working with their trainers to bring them to compete. These young riders showed stamina and skated at a solid level despite the pressures of competition, coaches, and parents. We offered these future pros ‘master-classes’ with some of Russia’s best pros. The children had a chance to talk with many of their favorite pros and get some insights on skating. It’s a mentorship of sorts that helps everyone be better professionals and gives kids a chance to learn from experience.

As we moved to the pro heats and finales, the new ‘Siberian school’ of bladers – Vanya Chanchikov, Albert Valeev, and Ilia Savosin – showed why they’re the vanguard of Eastern blading inside and outside our borders.

The contest might be over but this is just the start of big things in Russia for rollerblading with the support of the Russian Skateboard Federation.
