The evening before I was due to go on my first-ever trip to Athens earlier this year in January, I realized I had no idea what the aggressive inline scene was like there. I happened to be at Bay 66 skate park, London when someone told me, “I heard there’s a Bladehouse in Athens, and they have an amazing annual competition.” I was headed to the Greek capital for three months. Naturally, I was ecstatic to hear that there was a Bladehouse happening (an institution the Athens rollerblade scene gravitates around), complete with a rooftop skatepark and a mini ramp in the kitchen...
Since moving from the US to Europe in 2016, every February up until the pandemic years, I packed my camera, skates, and a few days worth of clothing to make my way to Eindhoven for Winterclash. To be honest with you, I don't go to watch skating or even skate myself (of course I do both). I go for the community.
This Winterclash came with a lot of surprises. The biggest to me was how much talent there was at the juniors [level]. Not to mention, I’ve never seen so many bladies at in a skate park. [To] see how many girls and woman skate, makes me wonder if Jojo should think about extending [Winterclash] one day longer to fit all the heats. Same for the AMs; there were soooo many heats and talented skaters competing...
After 3 years, Winterclash is finally back. You could feel the hype of the community all over social media in the weeks prior. Everybody was excited to be back there! A new skatepark has been built, and nobody knew what to expect...
It's been three long years and we're finally back at Area 51 in Einhoven for Winterclash 2023! Thank the blade gods, Johannes Jacobi and his crew bringing us all together for so much needed time together! The first big event is Hanglosers' Superbowl contest, MC'd by Miguel Martinez.
Over the Holidays, Nickel and Dime Skate Shop held a pop up art show and toy drive with the noble goal of donating toys to Union Rescue Mission. Be-Mag, along with The Dreamers Club, Full Plate Co, Skates Stay Strapped, and Trap Ninja Collectibles came out for this event to help make the holidays brighter for families struggling during this economically challenging time...

The idea of SPT Jam came about after we started a fundraiser to resurface the local skate park. We secured £18,500 from the council. After seeing the fresh wood, I approached the council about showing off the work in some way. I suggested some form of [skate] jam and they loved the idea.
The French rollerblading scene brings photos and stories from this year's Lyon Roller Open. We hear from participant Javi Garrido, judge Précilia Verdier, organizer Homere Kalampalikis, and MC Baptiste Urbain. Our Staff Photographer Clément Barbaza spent the weekend documenting it for this feature and presenting his first photo exhibition to much acclaim.
