BLADE CHECK | HAZEN BELL

Introduction and Photographs by Cavin Brinkman

When Hazen hit me up about getting some clips when he would visit the Netherlands,  I was down straight away. It’s always fun to get clips with a skater in a short timespan; see how much you can get out somebody in a few hours. Hazen is pretty unknown, so it was hard to find stuff of him to figure out his skating preferences. We met on a rainy day in Amsterdam and he is the nicest, easygoing giant from SLC Utah. We got 2/3 clips without problems and from there on it went so easy. We had 4 sessions in the 17 days he was in my country. Pretty motivated and productive skater that should be in the spotlight more.

Boot: Razor’s Shift 2

Liner: Reign V2

Wheels: Outer wheels are 72 mm go project and the inner wheels are 59 mm Apex Jon Cooley.

Frame: Oysi

Tell us about your setup?

I really enjoy this setup. The liner/boot combination are really comfy for my wide feet. The length and stability of Oysi frames is something I’ve really come to enjoy, and the ability to have lots of urethane under my feet and still being able to grind just about anything make this setup one of my favorites in a long time!

What parts do you wear through the quickest?

Probably bearings and wheels.

What part do you break most often?

The occasional buckle.

Which parts are you paranoid about breaking?

Haha since Blade Cup I’ve started skating with the soul plate screws, since then I don’t worry about much breaking on my skates.

What spares/tools do you keep in your backpack?

I usually have a bag of spare parts for anyone that needs, and a couple allen wrenches.

Where do your parts go once you are done with them?

Depends on how thrashed they are, sometimes stuff gets thrown out and sometimes stuff gets handed off to a friend who might need it.

Anything you plan to change on your current setup?

Probably just wheels sizes, I’d like to mess around more with a rocker setup.

Do you skate different setups for different terrains?

No, with the Oysi frames and the biggest wheel setup you can put on them I don’t really have to worry about that.

Flat or Freestyle?

Flat!
