    Them skates arrived

Pretty sick to see that the skates arrived with Julio this weekend. Pretty much on schedule and looking just as the samples did. I felt really stoked for them all there to see the boxes and skates being picked up in person by customers and shops and setup pics being shared already. Hope some people do some in depth reviews and stuff soon.

If you haven't seen it, go check the Insta stories and live videos: https://www.instagram.com/themskates/ - Seeing it all happen in real-time is really cool.

Spotted that all these boxes say Loco on them

It has been cool seeing the process and watching everything come together at their HQ. I'm hoping I get my pair before a bl8 trip coming up in a couple weeks. Still a little nervous about the sizing... according to one of the charts I should be okay (coming from US8 V13s) but another one made it seem like the smalls would be too short and the mediums too long.

I haven't pre-ordered and don't need new skates but seeing the posts and the podcasts Julio did and stuff does make me wanna support. I don't even particularly like the look of the skates!

thought this was going to be a review of the skates you got, not a summary of everything that's been on insta.

Ah sorry, yeah the title is misleading. Soz. Just wanted to say I was stoked for them more than anything. Can't imagine the buzz (and relief) Julio must have felt when they arrived. I was half-expecting a long insta-post like:

"Hi guys...so the skates arrived today, but we've noticed a few things....."

Hoping to try Reynas out Thursday. If the sizing works right I would like to set some up v cut like thrones with cuff straps and intuition liners.

Saw someone comment on the skates on instagram saying "Every picture of the skates look different". That's my general thought on the skates so far. Some look really sick and some look like giant puffy cloud skates.
It's not a shell sizing thing either as one of the best looking skates was the size L Miguel has and some of the puffiest looking were Broskow's that I'm assuming are a small shell. Going to wait until some of the ones locals ordered start showing up to really see whats up.

I know what you mean. The skates look kind of thick in that diagonal line between the very heel to the top eyelet if you know what I mean? Like the big skates are more in proportion in that area? Dunno, Just gotta try them on and crank them tight - they look better on the foot than they do on their own either way.

Keep wondering how many people are going to clip the lace petals and add their own eyelets. I know I'm considering it. With the low boot price I'm sure we will see lots of experimentation.

Broskows had really short frames on 'em though, and Migs had large Oysi's…. Short frames on skates always makes them look puffy

That's what I was thinking, but then these look totally different:
(obviously white is always going to look a bit bigger)

but I do 100% think little frames and wheels make them look awful. Maybe it is just the angle of the pictures for the other ones. Like these ones look really good to me:

Just realized the ones I really liked were the sample ones without the extra eyelet. That could be it.

Broskow has some small shells with small creates, which looks, hmmm, not so great
Think thats why kruise and jj are now on the bigger youth frames instead of smalls like on valos - looks better i think...

I picked mine up on Saturday from the warehouse. A quick first impression:

                              - Liners are living up to the hype. They have a lot of padding around the cuff and ankle, kind of reminds me of some of the older Razors models. They were thick enough that there wasn't a lot of extra length on the buckles once I clicked them in, and I have skinny ankles as is. Miguel was saying these are the only stock liners he's liked, and I agree.

                              - Color makes a difference. I have the Ivory skate with black souls, size small - white souls make these skates look extra big. The reason why some photos make them look bigger is a combination of the color (black looks smaller) and the lacing. The lacing area is surprisingly flexible and reminds me of Salomons in their ability to flex around your foot. People who lace them tightly will be able to make them look smaller because the "petals" will fold around your foot. I'm actually surprised by how effective this seems.

                              - Sizing: I wear a size 8 V13/PU Valo and the size small THEM fits perfectly. I suspect I'll have more room as the liners break in, I noticed a little more space as I tightened the laces and slid my heel back, so a size 9.0 would probably be the upper limit. For point of reference I wear a size 8.5 shoe and usually skate size 8s in most skates. These skates are also pretty wide, much wider than a V13, making them pretty comfortable. Jon also wears a size 8-9 V13 shell and size small.

                              - Frames: I have size medium Slimline 2s and I like to see my front wheel - it's a good fit. I think most pictures have the size 2 Youth Frames on them. I would note that Oysi frames are particularly long, so this can be deceiving at the bigger sizes.

                              - The plastic used in the shell is fairly flexible. Maybe not as flexible as the white V13s, but I think they found a good balance between stiffness/flex for the shell. Time will tell how these break in. The cuff height is taller than a V13 and overall they feel much more supportive, especially with the thick liner. I don't expect too many pressure points, if any.

                              - Someone I went with to the warehouse actually had a pair of Bauers and we compared the two shells. The Bauer lacing system has much more space in the lacing area, and the plastic is just different. Plus frames and souls. These will feel dramatically different from the Bauers, so I wouldn't write it off quite yet.

I haven't taken these out for a session yet and comment in terms of performance - they're new and I think I'm going to stare at them a while longer before I scuff up my nice new white skates. I think they look really dope though, even better than the pictures. The look has grown on me over the last several months.
